About The Role

JOB TITLE                            Fire Steward Supervisor
DEPARTMENT                      Match Day Operations

RESPONSIBLE TO                 Safety Officer

Specific Duties

  • Attend the Stadium at given dates and times as dictated by Safety Officer.
  • Attend pre-event briefing, and ensure all information is understood and then conveyed to the fire stewards on each stand.Do not leave the stadium after signing in until the end of your duties.
  • Assist the Safety Officer with the management of the Fire Stewards.
  • Attend Fire alarm activations and control the area until any issues have been resolved and then make a report to identity any issues post event.
  • Ensure that all fire fighting equipment specified on the Stadium Safety certificate is present and functioning prior to the Stadium being opened to the public.
  • Attend all training sessions required of you
  • Assist in the inductions in conjunction with the Safety Officer.
  • Know the location of and be able to operate effectively the fire-fighting equipment at the ground.
  • Know the location of the first aid rooms.
  • Be fully conversant with any methods or signals used to alert staff that an emergency has arisen.
  • Be capable of recognising potential fire hazards and suspect packages or unattended bags reporting such findings immediately to the control room or the Safety Officer. Constantly monitor the stadium before; during and after an event to ensure fire hazards are identified quickly.
  • Comply promptly with any instruction given in an emergency by the Safety Officer, Stand Supervisor or a Police Officer.
  • Remain in allocated area as instructed unless authorised or ordered to do otherwise by the Area Supervisor, the Safety Officer or a Police Officer
  • Report to the Area Supervisor or Safety Officer any damage or defect which is likely to pose a threat to spectator safety
  • Assist as required in the evacuation of the ground.
  • Assist in the prevention of breaches of ground regulations.
  • Attend any areas where fire has been reported or where fire alarms have activated in order to provide immediate assessment to the Control room and contain any incident if possible.
  • Ensure that the large fixed bins in the concourse area are locked and secured to the wall at all
  • Any other duties as directed by the Safety Officer.

About The Candidate

 Steward Role and Responsibilities

  • To understand their general responsibilities towards the health and safety of all categories of spectators (including those with disabilities and children), other stewards, ground staff and themselves.
  •  To control or direct spectators who are entering or leaving the ground, to help achieve an even flow of people in, to and from the viewing areas. Ensure spectators do not cause an obstruction in access and exit areas. •Ensure that the gangways and exits are kept clear.
  • To assist in the safe operation of the ground. Match / Event Day stewards are employed to perform specific duties and not to view the activity taking place.
  • To staff entrances, exits and other strategic points; for example, segregation, perimeter and exit doors or gates which are not continuously secured in the open position while the ground is in use.
  • To recognise crowd conditions so as to ensure the safe dispersal of spectators and the prevention of overcrowding.
  • To assist the Emergency Services if required.
  • To respond to emergencies; to raise the alarm and take the necessary immediate action.
  • To undertake specific duties in an emergency or as directed by the Safety Officer or the appropriate Emergency Service Officer, provided they feel safe and confident to undertake those duties.
  • Be vigilant and report any suspicious, unidentified or unattended packages.
  • Be vigilant and report any behaviour which demonstrates hostility towards the an individual’s disability, race, religion, sexual orientation or transgender identity
  • Report any anti-social behaviour, foul and/or abusive language or and behaviour or gesture that could be perceived as discriminatory.
  • Stewards are deployed to watch the crowd but must be aware of any incident occurring in the Stadium, which might affect crowd behaviour.
  • Stewards must be vigilant at all times and never complacent.
  • Stewards must be familiar with the contents of the Stadium’s Evacuation Procedures.
  • Stewards must not consume any alcohol/illegal substances before or during an event.
  • Stewards must not use any personal mobile phone or electronic device during their working hours. If such items are brought to work, they must be left within lockers in the Stewards Room.
  • Under no circumstances should a Steward make any gesture, whether physical or verbal so as to incite spectators.

CRIMINAL RECORD CHECK REQUIREMENT

This role will require an Enhanced DBS Check.

About The Club

GENERAL STATEMENT
