About The Role

Role Purpose
To support our young people and work towards our player care values around the person, presence and being prepared, both on and off the pitch.  The Academy Player Care Officer plays a pivotal role and will sit as part of the Academy Management Team, assisting to reach the overall objectives of the Academy Performance Plan.
 
Main areas of responsibility
  • Ensure that all Player Care expectations and standards as defined by the EFL, Premier League and Auditors are met or exceeded.
  • Support the mental and emotional wellbeing of all Academy members, including staff, through training, awareness and response.
  • Ensure welfare needs are met for signed and non-signed players (e.g. trialists), including accommodation, transport and initial introductions to the Academy.
  • Ensure player development plans are in place for all players to support their holistic development.
  • Oversee the induction process, internal and external transition strategy for players and parents.
  • Monitor, support and deliver relevant training to staff, players and host families as needed.
  • Maintain effective relationships with external partners and other clubs, e.g. EFL and LFE.
  • Manage and implement the accommodation strategy.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships between the Academy, parents and host families to ensure Academy players have the necessary support to help them meet their personal targets.
  • Be on call should there be any urgent accommodation needed or any welfare concerns or queries from players, parents and host family members.
  • Responsible for delivering the Academy's parent programme 9's-18's including player/parent voice.
  • Manage the 9's-16's Life Skills Programme and collaborate with the Academy Head of Education with the Under 18's Life Skills programme.
  • Be a presence around the Under 18's squad, building positive relationships with players, staff and parents.
  • Work closely with the LDSO & Head of Player Care on welfare and safeguarding matters.
  • Responsible for tracking and providing support for the Academy Alumni, following the Academy's exit strategy.
  • Attend all multi-disciplinary meetings on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure compliance of the League/Tour guidelines and make sure all necessary paperwork is in place, including consent forms, passports & immigration documentation.
  • Carry out pre-visit risk assessments and attend Academy tours both in the UK and abroad as necessary.
  • Ensure the Head of Player Care and other Senior Management are fully informed and updated about the actions and progress of reported concerns.
General Responsibilities
  • BWFC seek to ensure that all children and young people are protected and kept safe from harm while they are with staff and volunteers within Bolton Wanderers activities.  Everyone at Bolton Wanderers has a safeguarding responsibility to all work colleagues, fans and any vulnerable adults and children.
  • Be an ambassador of the Group, providing excellent customer service at all times whilst portraying a professional image.
  • Perform other duties as required, which are considered relevant to the post and to the objectives of the Group as identified by the Head of Player Care.
  • Treat all colleagues as customers ensuring respectful positive outcomes across communications.

About The Candidate

Essential
  • Experience working with children and young adults.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships quickly.
  • Approachable, proactive and able to work with other and independently.
  • A genuine interest in supporting and caring for others.
Desirable
  • Previous experience in a player care, safeguarding or welfare role.
  • A recognised qualification in safeguarding children or equivalent.
  • Experience working within an elite sporting environment.
