At Barnsley FC, we’re committed to giving our young players the very best chance to succeed—both on and off the pitch. As part of that commitment, we’re looking for caring, reliable host families to provide a safe and supportive home environment for our Academy players aged 15–21.
These young footballers need to have a comfortable place to stay away from home whilst they pursue their ambition of becoming professional players. A host family offers them far more than a room—it's a home from home, a friendly face, and a stable environment.
What Does Hosting Involve?
As a Host Accommodation Provider, you’ll play a meaningful role in a young player’s wellbeing and daily life. You will:
• Provide a furnished room, meals, and a welcoming environment within a 5 mile radius of Oakwell Stadium.
• Support players living away from home—helping them learn life skills like cooking, cleaning, and managing independence.
• Offer age appropriate supervision, ensuring safety and wellbeing at all times.
• Work closely with our Player Care and Safeguarding teams, who provide regular check ins and guidance.
You may host a player for a full season or support those on short term trial periods—every contribution makes a difference.
Why Become a Host?
Hosting is incredibly rewarding. You’ll not only support a young person in providing a place to call home – you’re helping to shape their career.
We provide:
• Monthly pay on receipt of invoice
• Full training
• Ongoing pastoral and safeguarding support, available 24/7
• Regular visits from our staff to ensure everyone feels supported and comfortable
