About The Role

Role Summary
Doncaster Rovers Football Club Academy are offering Physiotherapy/Sports Therapy work placement opportunities for the 2026/27 season. The successful candidate(s) will gain hands-on experience within an academy medical and performance department, supporting the delivery of medical services to players across the academy pathway.
 
Working alongside the medical and performance team, the role will involve assisting with the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and ongoing management of injured players, as well as contributing to the day-to-day running of the department.
 
This placement is aimed at students currently studying a Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy or related degree who are looking to develop practical, applied experience within an elite football environment. The placement is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and applied clinical practice.
 

Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the delivery of medical services, including treatment, rehabilitation and injury management of academy players
  • Assist with the implementation of individual and group rehabilitation programmes
  • Assist with pitch-side provision and session cover, where appropriate and supervised
  • Maintain high standards of clinical hygiene and treatment area organisation
  • Support stock management across all sites, ensuring equipment is maintained in line with EFL guidelines
  • Assist with the monitoring and auditing of emergency medical equipment and consumables, escalating when replacement or servicing is required
  • Contribute to a multi-disciplinary approach, working alongside coaching, sports science and medical staff
  • Engage with player monitoring processes and individual development plans (IDPs) where appropriate
  • Keep up to date with current sports medicine and performance research to support departmental development
  • Support the wider Performance Department as required to ensure an effective and integrated programme

The role may require evening and weekend availability in line with the academy fixture and training schedule.

The Academy reserves the right to amend duties in line with operational requirements. Placement students may be asked to undertake additional duties of a similar nature where appropriate.

About The Candidate

Person Specification

  • Currently studying (or recently completed) a BSc in Physiotherapy, Sports Therapy, Sports Rehabilitation or related field
  • Ability to undertake a placement year / sandwich year (where applicable)
  • Emergency First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain)
  • FA Safeguarding Children certificate (or willingness to obtain)
  • Appropriate insurance cover for supervised practice (e.g. CSP / BASRaT / SST)
  • IT literacy (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
