About The Role

First Team Opposition Analyst

 

Middlesbrough Football Club are seeking to recruit a full time First Team Opposition Analyst to be based at Rockliffe Park Training Ground in Hurworth, near Darlington. Reporting to the Head of Performance Analysis, the successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting the club’s tactical preparation and pre match planning. The role focuses on analysing upcoming opponents and delivering bespoke insights to the coaching and analysis team. The position requires working closely with first team Coaches, the Head of Analysis and the Data Department to provide clear and actionable information that helps first team strategy and performance.

THE ROLE:

 

  • Lead the preparation of opposition analysis, presenting findings to the first team coaching staff.
  • Deliver high-quality tactical insights using video analysis, mac book & telestration tools to support game plan creation.
  • Collaborate with the Club’s Goalkeeping Coach to provide pre match individual trends & analysis on opposition threats.
  • Provide Middlesbrough players with individual clips on upcoming opposition players.
  • Attend all home and away matches and perform live coding of match events and provide real-time feedback using Hudl Sports code & replay.
  • Create and maintain databases to analyse trends, opposition patterns, and playing philosophies.
  • Assist Head of Analysis in the preparation of post-match content, including tactical and performance reviews, using telestration and video clips.
  • Assist training analyst in the capturing & analysing of training as and when required.

 

About The Candidate

CANDIDATES SHOULD:

  • Have extensive experience working within a first team performance analysis role within a professional football club.
  • Possess an Undergraduate and/or postgraduate degree in Performance Analysis, Sport Science or a related subject.
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of Championship and EFL football, including the physical demands, tactical variability, and league-specific trends. Ability to translate data and video into clear, actionable insights for coaches and players.
  • Be proficient with industry-leading analysis software e.g. Sportscode, Wyscout, Second Spectrum, Statsbomb and Hudl studio.
  • Have key knowledge of Mac-Book products such as, Keynote, Numbers, Microsoft.
  • Be proactive, personable and able to thrive in a busy/demanding environment.
  • Be able to build trust and maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Show strong organisation skills and have the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Be open and receptive to constructive feedback and constantly looking to develop and evolve.
  • Be flexible to work weekends and unsociable hours as the job demands.
  • Be eligible to work in the UK.
