Hours of Work

You will be expected to work a minimum of 18.5 hours per week, excluding lunch breaks. The role will include evening and weekend unsociable hours.

Contractual Status

Part-time – Fixed Term (January 2027 – with a view to extend dependant on funding).

Overall purpose of the Job

Blackburn Rovers Community Trust (BRCT) is the award-winning independent charitable arm of founding member of the EFL and the Premier League - Blackburn Rovers FC.

Using the brand of Blackburn Rovers FC and the power of football and sport for positive social change, we are seeking to appoint a Neighbourhood Youth Engagement Officer.

This role will involve working within the local community (with predominantly young people aged 8-18 years) of Blackburn with Darwen (BwD) to deliver youth engagement provision. The postholder will lead and support the delivery of the Neighbourhood Youth Offer youth provision; including Premier League Kicks sessions, mentoring and social action projects.

The role requires an individual with experience working in a youth work setting and a good knowledge of the type of young people targeted and the challenges they may face.

Duties and Responsibilities

To be responsible for the following:

Support the development and delivery of a varied timetable of youth engagement provision/opportunities across BwD neighbourhoods.

Plan a varied youth club timetable, utilising the NYA youth work curriculum to achieve sessions outcomes.

Lead the delivery of a social action/mentoring programme; including young people recruitment, session planning and monitoring/reporting.

Update and maintain data records for all reporting purposes.

Any other duties deemed reasonable.

To always be approachable and represent Blackburn Rovers Community Trust in a professional manner regarding dress, presentation, personal hygiene, attitude, conduct and professionalism.

To be able to work flexible and unsociable hours where the role of the job requires including some evenings, weekends and overnight stays.

To contribute to a positive working and learning environment.

Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications

Creating and delivering a variety of youth sessions in a community setting, ideally with hard-to-reach young people.

 

Experience supporting or developing a programme of activities.

 

Experience working with similar demographics to the people within the borough of Blackburn; particularly with those of a minority community background.

 

Experience of working with challenging young people.

 

Experience of working with a charity and/or a professional football club community scheme and/or a community setting.

 

Promoting the brand of a professional football club to the local community.

Skills  

 

Must have relevant experience of working with children/young adults (8-18). This will include coaching, teaching and/or mentoring within a young adult environment.

 

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

 

To have a pleasant and approachable demeanour.

 

Ability to maintain effective relationships with young people, parents, carers and others, within appropriate professional boundaries.

 

The ability to work as part of a team.

 

Highly organised with the ability to prioritise.

 

A creative thinker with the ability to see new opportunities.

Strong IT skills.

 

A track record of working with young people with SEND.

Experience of promoting and recruiting participants onto programmes/activities

Practical experience of managing information operating systems including monitoring, evaluation, and quality assurance frameworks.

Qualifications

Minimum of a level 2 youth work and/or willingness to complete youth work qualification

Minimum level 2 in Sports, mentoring or equivalent qualifications.

To hold a valid UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

 

GCSEs including English and maths at a Grade C or above (or equivalent).

 

A degree in a relevant subject.
