About The Role

Purpose of the post:

Doncaster Rovers Academy is seeking an enthusiastic, reliable, and motivated Player Care & Sport Psychology Volunteer to support the development and wellbeing of our Academy players aged Under-9 to Under-18.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain practical, hands-on experience within an elite football academy environment while developing their knowledge and skills in player care, wellbeing, and applied sport psychology.

Working alongside Academy staff, you will help support the personal, psychological, and social development of our young players, contributing to a positive and supportive learning environment.
  • Supporting the delivery of player care and wellbeing initiatives across the Academy.
  • Assisting with the planning and delivery of workshops covering topics such as confidence, resilience, communication, motivation, mindset, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Building positive relationships with players across the U9–U18 age groups.
  • Providing appropriate one-to-one support where required under the guidance of Academy staff.
  • Supporting players with their personal and holistic development both on and off the pitch.
  • Assisting with monitoring player wellbeing and contributing to player development discussions where appropriate.
  • Maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and safeguarding standards at all times.
  • Working collaboratively with coaches and multidisciplinary staff to support the Academy programme.

  • To undertake other duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job.
  • To maintain the quality of service provision, regularly evaluating work and seeking to make improvements.
  • Present a professional image when dealing with both internal and external contacts and partners, acting in a professional manner at all times.

About The Candidate

  • Currently on CASES SEPAR or BPS QSEP Stage 2,

    OR

  • Is currently studying or has recently completed a degree in Sport Psychology, Psychology, Sport & Exercise Science, Player Care, Counselling, Education, or a related discipline
  • Has a genuine passion for supporting the development and wellbeing of young athletes.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is enthusiastic, proactive, and eager to learn.
  • Can build positive relationships with players, parents, and staff.
  • Is organised, professional, and able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Is able to commit to a few hours each week across afternoons, evenings, and occasional weekends.

 

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience within a sporting or football environment.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and player welfare practices.
  • A current FA DBS (or willingness to obtain one).
