About The Role

Head of Technical 

We are seeking an ambitious, highly credible and strategically minded Head of Technical to play a role in shaping the recruitment strategy of the first team. 

Responsible for ensuring a clear and consistent technical vision across first-team football recruitment. Working closely with the Head of Recruitment and First Team Manager.

The successful candidate will bring a strong understanding of the demands of the modern professional game, with proven experience of working within a high-performance environment and an ability to translate strategic objectives into effective football operations. They will provide leadership across recruitment and squad planning, player profiling, talent identification, ensuring decisions are underpinned by a combination of expert football judgement, data and market intelligence.

Responsibilities and Duties 
  • Identify and assess players of interest through a combination of scouting intelligence, performance data, video analysis and live observation, ensuring potential targets are aligned with the club’s recruitment strategy, playing and philosophy and defined player profiles.
  • Source, edit and compile high-quality video packages on priority recruitment targets using platforms such as Wyscout and other relevant scouting tools, ensure footage is purposeful and clearly demonstrates the players technical, tactical, physical and positional attributes.
  • Translate tactical and positional profiles provided by the Head of Recruitment and First Team Manager into focused visual and analytical evidence, ensuring scouting outputs directly address the specific requirements or the role and playing model.
  • Maintain accurate, structured and accessible scouting and recruitment data, ensuring player information, reports, video, KPIs and supporting intelligence are correctly categorised regularly updated and instantly retrievable.
  • Develop, implement and continually refine bespoke club-specific KPIs for different positions and player profiles. Ensure KPIs reflect the club’s tactical requirements, recruitment philosophy and evolving needs of the First Team and Academy.
  • Retrieve, manipulate and interpret data through APIs and other data sources, ensuring relevant information can be integrated efficiently into the club’s scouting and recruitment processes.
  • Design and build clear, intuitive data visualisations to support player recruitment and decision-making. Present complex datasets in a way that enables coaches, scouts, recruitment staff, and senior management to quickly understand player performance and suitability.
  • Integrate traditional scouting, video analysis, and data-driven intelligence to provide a comprehensive evidence base for player assessment, identifying both strengths and potential areas of concern within recruitment targets.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of player shortlists, ensuring targets are appropriately profiled, prioritised, and supported by relevant technical, tactical, statistical and visual evidence.
  • Manage and protect all transfer and recruitment-related information with the highest level of confidentiality, ensuring sensitive player, club, agent and financial information is handled appropriately and shared strictly on a need-to-know basis.
  • Attend scouting and recruitment meetings as required, contributing relevant technical, visual and data-led insight to discussions and ensuring agreed actions and follow-up work are completed within appropriate timescales.
  • Work closely with the Head of Recruitment, First Team Manager, scouting team, analysts and other key football staff to ensure technical scouting outputs remain aligned with the club’s recruitment priorities and footballing strategy.
  • Continuously review and improve scouting processes, tools and workflows, identifying opportunities to increase efficiency, improve the quality of recruitment intelligence and enhance the speed and accuracy of decision-making.
  • Coordinate logistical requirements for recruitment staff, including arranging match tickets, access requirements and other scouting-related logistics, ensuring staff are appropriately supported when attending live fixtures and recruitment activity.
  • Develop and maintain strong working knowledge of relevant scouting, data and video platforms, staying abreast of new technologies and methodologies that can improve player identification, assessment and recruitment.
  • Ensure all scouting outputs are produced to a consistently high professional standard, with clear presentation, robust evidence and a direct connection between the player’s profile and the club’s recruitment requirements.

Location
The role will predominantly be remote based. However, you will be required to travel to fixtures as reasonably requested by your line manager or directed by the First Team Manager. 
 
You will also be required to attend and work from any of the Club's premises where this is considered necessary or beneficial to your personal development or the effective performance of the effective performance of your duties. Such premises may include the First Team Training Ground, the Stadium, and the Academy Training Complex. 
 
Working Hours 
Your hours of work will be determined by the needs of the role but shall be a minimum of 37.5 hours per week. You are required to attend match fixtures which are to be discussed and agreed with the Head of Recruitment and of First Team Manager. These are likely to be evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Your role may necessitate longer hours than your contracted number. This will be kept to a minimum, but the hours are dictated by the responsibilities of the role. 
 
Salary 
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience, knowledge and skills.

About The Candidate

Essential core experience and skills required 
1. Demonstrable experience using football scouting, performance analysis and data platforms, including tools such as Statsbomb, Skillcorner, Impact, Wyscout with the ability to source, interpret and apply relevant data to support player, opposition and team analysis. 
2. A minimum of two years' experience of working within a professional first team football environment, with a clear understanding of the demands, processes and timeframes associated with supporting first-team coaching and performance staff. 
3. Demonstrable experience presenting complex technical, tactical and data-driven information to non-technical audiences, with the ability to communicate key insights clearly, concisely and in a manner that is relevant and accessible to coaches, players and other football staff. 
4. Ability to work effectively under tight changing deadlines, prioritising competing demands and delivering accurate, high-quality analysis within required timeframes. Flexibility and willingness to work evenings, weekends and matchdays as required by the demands of the role. 
5. Full UK Driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle, with the ability to travel independently to training grounds, matches, scouting assignments and other work-related locations as required.
